My remodel progress ..

So I told you that I was working on remodeling my house, but I promised to share pictures and never have. The remodel is being done by my husband and myself and we are in no way professional contractors, but with a little  luck and a lot of work,it is coming along nicely so far.

We did most of my living room last summer, but because we have changed furniture since then,we will need to get new curtains. We did replace the ceiling fan with a new one from Lowe's and I like it much better than the one we had before.

My bedroom and bathroom received most of the work.We tore out the carpet and installed laminate flooring again from Lowe's.I chose the fire cherry color and was very pleased with the results.

We also changed the walls from grey to green, added a new mirror and light fixture over the sink and replaced the old shower curtain and rod with these cute little monkeys.

My favorite thing are the new fans.We replaced the old one over the bed and added one in place of the light in the tub area too. They are nickel color to match the light and mirror with funky silver blades that work great with the room. The best part is that they are remote controlled. This way we can turn the light out from bed without having to get up,or turn the fan up or down if needed from the comfort of our pillow. They have dimmers in them too, which is great for allowing me to stay sleeping while the husband gets ready for work in the morning.
This is most of what we have accomplished so far.We are working on the kitchen now and I will show you more of that when I am finished.Anyone know a great place to get back splash for your kitchen or paint for cabinets at a good price?

CrindelStar-Where the Universe Dreams and Keeps It Green-Plus Giveaway

Most little girls I know love unicorns and flowers and my daughter is no exception. When we received the story and song cards from CrindleStar, she was anxious to try them right away.I explained to her that it was too cold to plant the cards then, but that we could visit the website to learn more and try our code if she wanted until it got a little warmer.

"Created by Award Winning Music Publisher, Gigi de Lugo, CrindelStar is an inspirational audio story & theme song, about a young girl, Maria, who is facing peer pressure from her classmates to abandon believing in her precious unicorns. We learn through Maria’s encounter with a mystical creature, CrindelStar, that what she believes of herself creates the foundation of what she might ultimately contribute to the world through her life’s purpose and gift."

Using the card, and  code on the back,we were able to redeem it online in minutes, giving us the full MP3 story and song.I was excited that we could download the file and go back and listen to it again and again.I have to admit my daughter really wasn't into this part of it.I tried to get her to really sit down and listen, but it just wasn't happening. The story is very cute and the music is fun too,but I guess she had her mind set on those flowers too much to care.It did get lots of giggles and dancing from my nieces,so in the end,it was a success.

When you finish downloading the song, you tear the cards into pieces, soak them in water and plant them in light soil.Within a few weeks, you should have beautiful Black-Eyed Susans. No waste from packaging, and an eco-friendly result too. When you place your order online for the download, they will mail you a card to plant. Each card will have it's own code that you can share with someone else,so you get two downloads for the price of one!

One of you will get to try this yourself, thanks to CrindelStar and Mom Blog Society

Keep Your Babysitters At Hand With Sitter Scout

We have all had plenty of days when we had an appointment, needed to run errands, had things to do or just wanted that much needed "adult" time.If you are like me,those are the days when you need a sitter but just don't have the time to sit down and make all those calls. I usually have 4 or 5 people I call when I need someone to watch the kids and I have to call them one by one to see who is busy and who is available.Of course, someone always fails to answer and then I have to leave messages, wait for return calls and go through it all again if that person turns out to be busy..ugh.

Now you can avoid this situation by using SitterScout to schedule your babysitters.SitterScout is an online/mobile tool that helps you locate one of your existing babysitters, without having to call them one by one. This service allows you to keep a list with all of your normal sitters information on file. This private list contains the contact numbers for all of your sitters,so when you need a sitter, simply go through the list, select the ones you want to contact and Sitter Scout will send them an SMS message.
You can even choose to send them in rounds,so your favorite sitters get contacted first,or send them to everyone on the list all at once. When a sitter accepts your offer, you get a text letting you know your sitter is scheduled and you can go back to living your life, without all that wasted time and irritation.

Signing up takes only a few minutes and is super easy to do.Fill in the needed information and you are finished.Using the service is a snap too.I was able to figure everything out in seconds and before I knew it,I was done.Everything is ready for the next time I need a minute of relief from being mom.

Sitter Scout is an adult geared service that strives to help you get out of the house and away from the kids for a much needed break. As parents,we need a chance to relax and unwind. As adults we need conversation beyond school assignments and cartoons. With all the things going on in our lives today, time is something there never seems to be enough of. Take advantage of the chances to spend time with your spouse,to create a little romance and keep the home fires burning,by using SitterScout the next time you need a sitter.

*You can learn more about the Sitter Scout Philosophy by visiting their site.

Hermosa=Very Big Bling

I am not the biggest jewelry person, but I do like to have a few pieces to choose from when I want to wear it.My biggest issue is the cost.If it is going to spend most of it's time in my jewelry box, then I don't want to pay high prices for it.Of course,I understand the need to pay more if we are talking diamonds and pearls, but for everyday needs,I prefer silver and rhinestones.Who wants to lose a bundle at the lake, park or wherever else busy moms go?

I was browsing eBay looking for something pretty but inexpensive to wear and came across these two rings. When I saw then I thought they were beautiful,so I bid on,and won, both of them.

I waited for them to arrive and when they did,I was eager to open them. They are just as pretty as they looked in the photos, but were way to big for my taste.I couldn't tell this from the pictures, but the settings were huge and the stones were big and flashy. You can tell they are costume jewelry, which isn't always a bad thing, but in this case they are just too much for me.I guess it isn't a big loss,I think I paid about $20 total for them, but still I am disappointed that I don't have two new rings to wear..sniff sniff :(

Kraft Fresh Take

Have you tried the new Kraft Fresh Take mixes? I happened across these one day at Walmart and figured would give them a try. They were only $1.98 each,so I grabbed a couple different mixes and went to get the meat to go with them. Each one can be used with more than one type of meat,so this allows even more variety in your meals.
The first one we tried was the Savory Four Cheese.I used this with hamburger,as shown, and everyone loved them. The mixes are really easy to use.The different ingredients are packaged together but divided so they don't mix.I opened the bag, shook the ingredients to blend them and mixed it with the meat. After making the burgers,I gave them to the husband to throw on the grill while I made pasta salad and fries to go with them.

The burgers turned out nice and moist with lots of yummy cheese inside.I like having my ingredients mixed in the meat so I get the full flavor of the burger. This was a quick and easy meal that the whole family enjoyed.(I also used this mix with buffalo meat and it made a great buffalo burger for those of you that like a little adventure.)

I plan to try all the varieties available and hope they make more soon!

Our Bigger House

Guest post by Gerard Mcdaniel

We just bought a bigger house, and I am so excited to move in. We knew our home was too small for us for a while, but when we had our third child, it became unbearable. We bought this three-bedroom cottage when we were first married, and had outgrown it. I felt like we were living on top of each other, and we had absolutely no storage space. I started to feel like if we didn’t move into a bigger place soon we would be featured on an episode of Hoarders. There were toys and clothes everywhere, and I felt helpless when it came to organization. Even though moving is a headache, I know it is something we can’t put off any longer and that buying a new home was the right choice. I already took care of checking out satellite TV and clearwireless liverpool, so that should be hooked up when we move in. It’s nice to know that after the long days of unpacking and organizing I’ll already have those things set up to help me relax.

New Hamburger Helper Flavors plus Giveaway

When I have had a busy day,the last thing I want to have to do is come home and slave over the stove to get dinner ready. On these days,I want to be able to grab something quick and easy that my family will want to eat.
One of my favorite fast meals is Hamburger Helper.I am able to get something everyone likes, and give myself a break too. There are so many choices,I can make a new one each week and I don't have to hear complaints about repeating meals too often either.

For 40 years,Hamburger Helper has helped make dinner time easy and they are doing it again with 2 new flavors! The Ultimate Beef Stroganoff features a nice roast beef flavor with pasta and a creamy sour cream sauce, while the Cheesy Italian Beef  includes real Italian herbs and pasta with an Italian style sauce.Like any other Hamburger Helper mix,you just add milk, water and ground beef for a fast and easy dinner at home.

I was sent a great prize pack from Hamburger Helper and My Blog Spark. It included a box of each of the new flavors as well as a trivet, serving spoon and serving dish.

I was pleased with the flavor of the Cheesy Italian Beef. This variety is perfect to make a quick Italian meal.Throw in a salad and bread sticks and dinner is served. My husband and I are not fans of Stroganoff,so I had the boys try this one instead. They seemed to like it as well as they do any of the other flavors. My oldest could eat Hamburger Helper every night if I let him,so if he comes back for seconds,I know it is a flavor to buy him again.

Thanks to my wonderful sponsors, one of my readers will win the same prize pack I received!!!

The Remodel Continues..HELP!

I feel like I haven't blogged in forever.I have been so busy with the renovations,it seems like I haven't had time to think. My house in in chaos,my budget is begging for relief and I am still not finished.Ugh.

I don't know if I have even mentioned this before, again, super busy, but just in case you want to be nosy like me,I will post some of the after pictures later. We have almost finished my bedroom. The new paint is on,the floor is finished and the ceiling fans are being hung as I type.Once the paint dries in my bathroom and the mirror and lights are hung,it will be finished..after 4 very annoying days.

Next week we will finish the kitchen, assuming my counter tops come in on time.I still have to find something to do with my cabinets,if anyone has any ideas.....With the extra I spent on the counters and breakfast nook,I am not sure what I am going to be able to do with them.

Also if anyone knows a really great place to find wall vinyl or decals, that would be great too.I would love to find a review contact to work with, but if not I still need some things.I am looking for trees in brown..not the leafy kid-looking kind, but more like the fall with no leaves type.I also need something for my bedroom ..I am thinking some type of quote with maybe a floral design around it.The walls are now green and it is a mans bedroom too,so nothing too girly.Any suggestions?

Foul Mouth Shirts for St.Patricks Day

Only twelve days left until the green beer starts flowing. That's right,I am talking about St.Patricks Day.I will admit,I never used to get the point of the whole thing, but after watching those around me get into the fun,I understand it a little more now.St.Patricks Day is a day to let loose and have fun. There is just no other way to put it.How can you even try and be serious with leprechauns running everywhere and rainbows and pots of gold being the theme of the day?

While making the perfect party plans this year, don't forget to grab a shirt that shows just how you feel.On a day when pinching is the penalty for not wearing green, anything goes.Protect yourself from those grabbing fingers and show your spirit at the same time with one of these  Funny Irish T-Shirts from Foul Mouth Shirts. They have a nice selection of shirts that range from the funny to the down right perverted,so there is something for everyone.

I was sent the "I'm Irish,Do I Get A Free Beer?" shirt to review. This comes in a variety of colors like the green above and the dark blue one my husband tried. The shirt arrived in perfect condition, just as it looks on the site. The material is soft and the shirt offers a nice bit of stretch to allow for a comfortable fit.One of the things I noticed was that the letters didn't crack or fade after washing. The photo above of the blue shirt is after it has been washed a few times and the color is still bright with no peeling or other issues.

If you are looking for party gear,or just something to show your Irish pride, stop by and grab one of these funny shirts for you and while you're there, share the laughs, and grab a few for your friends too!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Try Fusion Skin Peel for a Fresh Look

As I get older,I have started to notice slight changes in my appearance.I hate to admit that, but it is true.I am not going to sit here and say I look old because that would be stretching it,but I do notice a change. One of the most important features to me is my skin.I have never had perfect skin, but it has never been a real problem either. As I get older,I prefer to keep it that way and am always on the lookout for new products to keep me looking young and fresh.

When I saw the opportunity to review Skin Peel,I knew it was something I wanted to try.Developed by leading Plastic Surgeons and Dermatologists, their products are used in Esthetics Schools all over the country.I had heard of Skin Peel before, but had never known anyone who had tried the products,so I was excited to be the first.

I was sent the Fusion Peel set to review.Designed to reduce age spots, clear acne, improve skin and soften wrinkles,I knew this was the right product for me.The kit includes medical grade Skin Peel,Peel Prep and Neutralizer Spray complete with dispensing pumps and easy to follow instructions.

I can't say I saw a dramatic change in wrinkles or skin spots because I didn't have an issue there to begin with, but I did notice an overall improvement in the feel and shine of my skin.I don't notice the dark circles under my eyes or slight tired look as I did before, which is enough for me.In the battle against age,any improvement is a victory in my book.

The products do have a slight smell to them but it wasn't disturbing and I was able to complete the routine with no issues. My only problem is having to use 3 different bottles to achieve the effect desired. This takes up more space in my cabinet and of course more time to apply then a singe product. That said,I don't know if you would achieve the same results without using the entire kit as directed.

Remembering Davy Jones

Hey Hey we're The Monkees, people say we monkey around....

If you are at least as old as I am,then you have to know who Davy Jones was.I grew up watching reruns of  The Monkees every chance I got and still would if it were on.There was just something fun about Micky,Peter,Michael and  Davy that made my sisters and I get up and dance every time the theme song came on.I loved Davy Jones and thought he was the cutest thing alive.I even remember seeing him on The Brady Bunch when he took Marsha to the school dance.

I admit,I haven't given him much thought recently, until the other day. I was randomly surfing the net and came across a mention of The Monkees online. This prompted me to tell the kids about them. They love hearing about things from my childhood and I love influencing their choices in music and movies this way.We talked about the band, their similarities to The Beatles and of course the television characters for awhile and went on with our day.

The next afternoon,I heard on the radio Davy Jones was dead.I hate to see anyone die, even though I know it is a part of life, but there is something about losing a childhood icon or hero that makes it different. It's like losing a piece of your childhood that you can't get back.I realize as I get older this will happen more and more often, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

                                                            Rock on Davy Jones
